criticism
[edit]That page only lists criticisms about fuel cells vehicles. If it must be an opinion page, then arguments in favor of hydrogen must be listed.Let me just suggest some before you jump on yelling it has none.
1) Fast charging. While at the system level, the specific energy might still be comparable to a BEV, increasing the speed of charging for BEV will only lead to heavier electrical architectures or higher losses compared to the current state, when it's not a real problem for fuel cells (there are problems though, but you can charge a tank in 15 minutes, and increasing the load doesn't increase by much the charging time and the losses). A 100kWh model S charging on a 300kW experience losses of about 30% making hydrogen less disadvantaged than with a slow charging, hence why it is envisioned for trucks.
2) light tanks. Most of the weight is in the fuel cell itself and the surrounding system, there are weight gains to be made, and been made constantly.
3) In case of "blue hydrogen". Taking away most of the carbon of the natural gas, which would have been ejected in any cases if the methane was burned. In case that burned methane is used to produce electricity, a turbine is also inefficient.
4) Heat can be used in the cab while it's taken on the battery for a BEV, so in cold climates, the efficiency advantage of BEV decreases and their range too, while it's not for fuel cell vehicles.
Among the criticisms, one could add the complexity of the system.

- Another important point that becomes significative when most of the vehicles are battery powered is the electrical infrastructure that currently is not enough to both generate and transport the required additional electricity and it would be as much as expensive of building one based on hydrigen. In particular, when a large number of BEVs need to be charged, let's say on long travels so fast recharging is a must, really huge electric wires are required. To recharge 4 × 75KWh BEV in 10 minutes would require a 1.8 MW power line. And 10 minutes is twice the time required for refuelling petrol cars and hydrogen powered vehicles. On busy roads each minute count for more cars in queue waiting for recharge.
- All these considerations are neglected by BEV supporters and critics of hydrogen. 45.93.38.22 (talk) 07:13, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Non-hydrogen fuels
[edit]Article seems to be almost entirely about different types of hydrogen fuel cells. (It could mention their use in the Space shuttle.) The only use of fuels apart from hydrogen mentioned in this article seems to be for sensing alcohol and carbon monoxide. Can we have a section on non-hydrogen fuels ? - Rod57 (talk) 17:50, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- High temp fuel cells can use Methane (Natural Gas). Note that many fuel cells use alkali electrolytes that fail if CO2 is generated, so Hydrogen only (Water vapor exhaust). 75.253.119.222 (talk) 04:54, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
